Hi there looking for suggestions for a bizzare HDMI issue.

When connecting my main PC to the smart TV via HDMI cable my TV screen remains black with a bunch of green and red lines running across the top. However when connecting the HDMI cable to other devices my smart tv mirrors those screens perfectly.

In addition if I connect the smart TV to any other device the screen will mirror perfectly. But if I then unplug said device and plug in my main PC the smart TV will show the other devices last screen with a glitchy effect.

    Any ideas?

(I am a novice when it comes to PCs so sorry if I am not being detailed enough)

Hello and welcome SR, If I understand what you’re saying, it sounds like you need to direct video info to the HDMI output port on your computer.

I’m not at a computer right now to give exact directions, but it’s something like
Right click an empty area of your screen.
Look for something like Duplicate or Extend.

If you’re on a laptop, look at the F keys along the top row of keys. One should toggle between having video on just the laptop display, just the external display, or both displays.

Hi there I have tried this but unfortunately I still get the same screen. Here is a picture when plugged in my main PC. When plugged into my laptop is works perfectly (same HDMI cable, same HDMI port on the tv)

Thanks for the photo. Are you on a desktop or laptop? I'd like to know how far you got thru the instructions I provided earlier. Did they make sense? Were you able to get thru them?

If you got thru the instructions and everything seemed to flow, then you may have a hardware problem.

Also, if you tried to Duplicate the display, try to Extend the display instead. See if you have the same problem.

Issue happens with my main desktop. HDMI works perfectly with my other laptops. Your instructions were clear. I tried to duplicate and also extend through the settings -> system -> display.

I also checked and the software is up to date for my operating system and graphics drivers.

Then sounds like a hardware problem. Maybe it's some kind of compatibility problem.

The cable is good because you use it with other devices that you connect to the TV. However, if you have another HDMI cable, give it a try. Also try connecting the desktop to another TV. If all that fails, look to the graphics card in the desktop.

It's odd because it worked as little as 2 months ago. Not sure exactly what happened. Only have one TV so cannot try another TV at the moment. Same issue regardless of which HDMI port I use on my main PC (tried both of them).

Display port works fine to my main monitor from the PC.
