Hello there :) first of all my English isn't the best so sorry for any mistakes u may see.

I got a Asus Rog G751JY and there is just one small thing that is crushing it. As soon as I'm only connceted over WLAN i got heavy spikes in games or in general. Since I already played with several Notebooks and never had a problem it has to be something with the Asus.

The only thing i could find about it is that there is something inside the Asus, that is trying to optimize the connection to the Internet like every 1,2,5 minutes, and this might be the Problem, but I was never able to find something to find/deactive this. Maybe someone knows more about it, or has another solution.

    Thank you :)

I would be willing to bet there is an installed Intel piece of software causing this. Can you tell us what Intel programs are installed in the Program List? I would also like to hear what Asus programs are installed as well because somewhere between them I think lies the issue.

This is a class act $2000 i7 gaming laptop with Nvidia GTX 980 and GTX 970 video cards
so it has the hardware to work for gaming by a mile but I would also like to know the hardware in your exact unit as well as I think everyone else would like too.

As well as the above advice if you happen to be using the ROG utility "Gamefirst" I would uninstall that. It does mess with the WLAN solution you have.

    512GB SSD
    980 GTX 8GB

This are the specs i could find, never touched high end games and mainly playing League of Legends on it, has low requirements, but the little spikes are just killing the game for me.

Well lets see if I can find all Intel Software stuff and list it up:

    - Thunderbolt (TM) Software
    - Intel(R) Proset/Wireless Software
    - Intel(R) Proset/Wireless Software Bluetooth version
    - Intel(R) Management Engine Components
    - Intel Collaborative Processor Performance Control

    Asus:

    - Rog Gaming Mouse
    - Splendid Video Enhancement Technology
    - Screen Saver
    - Gaming Center
    - WinFlash
    - Usb Charger Plus
    - ATK Package
    - Live Update

Thats about it, there is some Rog stuff for VideoMode Settings, Macros and Sound. The only thing I unistalled because a friend told me it might be the issue was Rog Game First III.

While searching for a solution im also Setting it back and gettin Windows 10 on it.

    i7-4710HQ 2.50GHz Turbo Boost up to 3.6
    16GB RAM
    2TB HDD
    512GB SSD

yes it is still the same, as said im resetting the Laptop atm since i already installed some useless stuff that i have to get rid off.

Might there be some hardware inside that forces the optimizing of the Signal eventually?

Yes it's possible, and taking note of exactly when this started and any changes you might have made up to that point would be a good idea to think about as well. Can you remember when this started happening and any changes you made, and did it actually work ok at any point? By setting it back, do you mean a restore point? or do you mean an image file you may have created? or do you mean you will be reinstalling the operating system itself (the original one)?

I do see where you are considering installing Windows 10. Are you thinking this might mitigate the issue itself? Or are you merely interested to install it because the operating system is newer? I say this because that would actually be a very cool way to "test" not only the performance difference but also -- if you did a "clean install" of Windows 10 without any of the Asus or Intel software, just the core OS and hardware drivers (if needed) would you see the same issue. However, do to that, if it was me I would first (going back to what I said above) get a restore point back to where everything was theoretically working good before, and then use Marcruim Reflect and create an image file as a go-to safe option just in case.

Just an FYI it at any point your system had been working ok before even with all the extras you had installed like the Asus and Intel software it could be that a Windows Update and or, a driver update like the WLAN driver that caused the issue. I would also check to make sure you have the latest BIOS for that laptop as well. Asus shows 10 BIOS firmware updates on the site here_

    https://www.asus.com/support/Download/3/719/0/2/I3zsjpO34EbUTo7s/41/

The most current being BIOS 211 To fix system hanging issue (code 0x72)

    --------------------------------------------------------------

Here is the order of things I would do

    1) Make sure your BIOS is the latest

    2) Test with another USB wireless adapter just to see how it performs not in the sense of speed but in the sense of stability and spiking issues (if you have availability to use another WLAN USB device)

3). Uninstall the WLAN driver and install the most current driver for your provided operating system (test)

    ~ if no joy...

    4) Uninstall all extraneous ROG and Asus/Intel Utilities you don't need (test)

    ~if no joy...

    5) Write down the driver version you have of each major component
    *VGA-GPU
    *WLAN
    *Audio (yes audio)
*any other drivers you think are important

    6) Use a system restore point and go back to when you know it was working ok (if you have that and test) and if it's working ok then monitor the driver versions vs the ones you wrote down before, and create an image with Macrium Reflect, and if you *like" see how windows 10 in it's base form and configuration works with your laptop. If nothing else you hopefully have a restore point back to where you know it was working ok, and an external image of everything at that point with a program like Macrium Reflect, and you have also updated the BIOS or at least checked that you indeed have the latest BIOS, and you have references all major drivers at two specific points in time. One being when the machine did work, and the other when it wasn't working correctly, and compare.

Checked everything and while I would remove Live Update as it really mimics Windows Updates and seems to have issues it is not your problem. Do we know if there are any bios updates for this unit? I note that Thunderbolt Software messes with networking so I would be tem pted to remove that as well. I see Will and I posted at the same time so run with his ideas first as this is his traea of expertise.

Thanks for the big reply, gonna get trough all. I just dont have any other device to try out for Wlan, but the fact that my Laptop for Work and the ones of my friend have no similar Problem is enough i guess.

I was resetting it completly, since there was no important stuff on it, just dont know the english word for it. I just resetet it to factory setting, and Installed Windows 10, there is nothing else on it, expect the stuff he has preinstalled.

There was no point where it worked properly. Before/After Gamefist, Boosting with Tuneup Utilities and so on. After some months struggling with it im right now only playing with a 15 meter cable going trough the apartment.

I'll try to get trough all i can find about Intel/Rog now to see if i can find something. Im just a Newbie when it comes to Bios and unistalling stuff where I dont know if it might get me more issues then this one. Have no Problem with fixing Consoles but worried about expensive stuff like this one ^^

Thanks for the reply and update. Looks like you did an Asus OS factory system restore and then installed Windows 10 on top of it? What operating system did it originally come with? When you get the chance and you feel comfortable fire up your game without installing any drivers directly from Asus just see what the base windows 10 does on that laptop "as is". No need for a BIOS update until it's the last and only resort after all other measures have been attempted. Asus has a windows flash utility for that series of laptop which should be safe enough and the one on that site listed as actually only for ROG series laptops even though it's a Winflash based utility. I have used it to flash a few ROG laptops before myself for customers. I use to have a BIOS flashing guide on another site about all type of flashes. That type of laptop is actually meant to be flashed with that utility but I would do so only after disabling any antivirus software (or exit out of it) and anything else in the running tasks list, or that routinely "calls home" or "updates" frequently, just like an antivirus will. These can mess up a windows flash though fairly rare.

    Big thanks, problem solved.

To be honest i dont know which of the Intel/Asus programs screw the wlan, but it was one of it. I was updating it to Windows 10 and right after made the "Factory Setting" restore. So it actually hasnt installed any Intel/Asus/Rog Software except one for the Touchpad i guess. Made a custome game and it works perfectly. Guess i wont use any Game and Boosting softwares from now on from Asus/Rog.

I was just laughing when i saw the message about only supporting Asus products while siting in front of one :D

anyway i can finally get rid of the cable and noone is going to break a leg while jumping over it. Big Big thanks!

Edit: It came up with 8, i would still be more happy when there was no more windows updates after xp ^^

That is one of the reasons I never install and third party software unless I know exactly what it does. Good job! I have seen things like that too many times.

Thanks again with the update, and very happy your issue is solved. For what it's worth I am a long time gamer and I learned long ago, to either use NO Asus/MSI/ASrock, Gigabyte tools at all, other than "maybe" one like MSI Control Center where you can monitor all the voltages and clocks on one app, but I digress here ... right now I am using nothing OEM at all and that is the way I like it. The Bios has everything anyway and uses no system resources right? All I use are apps like HWinfo64, Speccy, Fraps, Coretemp, and a few others but I stay away from motherboard makers utilities for the most part because there can be conflicts - depending. Saw it with AsRock's FastLan as well just like in your case it caused connection irregularities, and like the KillerLan utilities do the same, whereas if you simply just use the core driver itself it's usually fine.

True True. I was just excited about having something in my House with RoG on it I guess and thought the software from it would improve the system, the only thing that was cool was the overclock modus in one of them but yeah, can live without it. xD

But finally 1 less trap cable in the living room.

It is exciting and I know the feeling about how it "looks" because after all, Asus ROG laptops along with MSI gaming laptops are the pinnacle of high end laptop gaming and they make them so pretty to look at, and all the software is also pretty to look at. Trust me you will get over that feeling when you see how a slimmer efficient OS runs because you don't have all that stuff running and you will still have a beautiful laptop to look at. Alternatively one thing you can do is get that image created and start with one app at a time and as you install each one, take note of system behavior. Install only the ones you really wanted though one at a time. Maybe you really only wanted one or two of them. Like I said currently I have nothing installed from MSI not even Live Update, and that is how I like it.

Good tactic, keep your gaming laptop tuned for maximum efficiency and pure gaming. That is what I would do. Another thing you can do with a very high end laptop like that one is use an external 1920X1080 Display and a small USB keyboard or just the gaming numpad type unit like a Nostromo unit_

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823126050
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826153183

That way you get more of a larger screen desktop gaming experience and you save some wear and tear on the laptop keyboard (and the laptop display) with the more common WASD and movement as well as tactical keys.

You are just a mindreader, bought the BenQ RL2455HM 2 days ago, gonna use the rog as a tower pc since it is too big for my bag anyway. Just had to for the cheap price, and finally got some use for the razer keyboard i bought years ago and never touched. I just dont know why I'm so fixed to Consoles. I got like the Laptop for it, but still enjoy it more on my PS4 even if the most games are half the price for Pc.
