Application freezing in Windows 10

I just started using PowerDirector 14 for video editing. Every so often it will randomly freeze. Sometimes when dragging media to the time line, another time during a project save. And when I say freeze I mean it completely freezes. The mouse doesn't move at all. The screen doesn't degrade or turn black, just stays frozen. The only thing I can do is hold down the power button to turn off the PC. After booting back up I see nothing in the event viewer except an absence of entries during the time between when it froze and when I rebooted. I don't have this issue running anything else. The support team at Cyberlink wants me to generate a dump file from the task manager but once it freezes you cannot do anything including crtl-alt-del. So my question is what do you think could be causing this. Doesn't seem like it could be a RAM issue as I don't experience any issues otherwise. Possibly a graphics issue but it even froze during a project save (was not rendering or anything). I have a Radeon R9 290X running latest non-beta Crimson drivers. I also have 32GB DDR4 and i7 -6700K. My main drive is an SSD and all drives are new and have plenty of room. Any ideas/suggestions?

Hello DigitalMan and welcome to Computer Help Forums.

You can still generate a dump file, just do it immediately after opening Power Director. (Before it freezes.)

Start the task manager and click the processes tab. Right click the Power Director and then click create dump file.

Yes, I built this PC back in December last year. The application freezes randomly. If I try the create dump file and it runs for hours will that create a huge file?

The reason why I'm asking his that a computer of that size of memory and a i7 CPU should not be doing that unless there is some hardware issues like hot memory ,hot CPU ,dried-up paste ,fan or power supply not producing enough power did you calculate based on the hardware requirements a more stronger power supply or it could be something stupid as dust so it could be a number of things you would have to eliminate things one by one

These would all be valid points except that this only happens in a single application. The power supply is an AX1200i, more than enough especially since I only have a single GPU. So, the freeze just happened again. This time I tried turning the monitor off and on again. When the monitor came back on it showed no signal and went black. So starting to lean towards a gfx card or driver issue (again, only with this app though). Wish I had a spare card to test this out.

Well by the sound of it sounds like you're on the right track try to completely remove the driver for the GFX card then do a reboot then re-install the driver again good luck and by the way for the power supply the GPU is not the only thing that gets calculated for the amount of power that you need and I'm sure you know that

Well, so far so good. Installed the beta drivers (non-whql-64bit-radeon-software-crimson-16.5.2.1-win10-win8.1-win7-may16.exe) and was able to complete a full video project with no crashes. Am not ready to say 100% that it fixed it but so far looking good.
