I really would like to get rid of the top two bars, especially the IE search bar. I reformatted my computer and I never had those before. I have scanned thoroughly
    and found nothing.

    1. Go to view menu and then toolbar. You can disable them if they are listed there.
    2. Go to tools menu and then click on add ons to uninstall these toolbars.
    3. Reinstalling browser is also an option.

I am familiar with that procedure and those tool bars, this is different. This is an IE search bar in a Firefox browser. That should not be. The bar below the IE is also new, it tells you what you are searching for............. wasted space. I am about ready to quit Firefox, but I do love the add-ons like adblock plus and the easy list. Over the years IE has made their browser simpler instead of having 3 inches or more of clutter. I did reinstall FF. FF keeps upgrading my versions when I set it at never and I just got through installing 28 AGAIN....and the bars are still there. I went to FF's help and they said your using an old browser, you need to update it. So they did.

My desktop has the same set up and those bars are not there. As you can see in the photo, duckduckgo is my home page and and my search engine. The IE bar is on the top and the FF ball in directly underneath. I think if I reformatted my desk top those bars "would" be on it.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

The only thing that I've seen before , that looks anything like that is a Firefox addon:

    IE tab for Firefox

IE Tab - an extension from Taiwan, features: Embedding Internet Explorer in tabs of Mozilla/Firefox...

Adblock Plus is now available for IE.

Click Here for a direct download.

I think Starbuck got it but so you know most of the addons you probably use are available for Chrome and even Safari. I use Pale Moon a Mozilla browser also Starbuck recommended to me a few years ago and really like it without any of the issues FF has. But many of the addon features you like are also available for IE as well. Wot is here:https://www.mywot.com/en/download/ie
    and even Mouse Gestures etc.

Umar, no I can't FF won't let download an older version. I use places that I always use. When I first started looking for version 28, I found it at reliable places, but FF would update it during the install. They would not let me use what I wanted. I have a friend who work in a help forum where I read for years and it was hard for her to believe that. Later she emailed me and said you were right Version 28 will upgrade during the install. I finally found one that let me, so I kept it and have used it since.

I found a FF help thread where everyone was complaining about the updating without our permission. The guy who started the thread asked "can you run 2 versions of Firefox at the same time?" The tech would not answer his question. The posters were getting a little angry, finally the guy typed in all caps, "you did not answer my question" and he asked again. The tech finally said yes. I did that with a custom install and saved it in my documents. They continued to update the one in programs.

AND before you tell me it is dangerous to use older versions.....I am not near as knowledgeable as you all are, but I am very good at what I do with my computer. If I can't fix something like the bars, I will adjust to it or get another browser. I bought my first PC when I was 65 years old and my mantra was "if my 10 year old grandson, I can do this" Every time a new OS came out I bought one, just to learn it. I gave my old one to a member of my family. My main problem with computers is terminology. No one to talk computer with.

Problem is with the download package. Don't use it if you don't want that toolbar.

You can download version 28 from https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/28.0/

I am also not sure what is the exact file that you should download. Others members might help you.

Disconnect your internet connection when you install firefox and later also disable updates if you don't want them. Do so before you connect to internet again otherwise firefox will automatically update it.

But you don't actually say why you are intent on using an out of date, vulnerable browser.

umar, I have used that download since they came out with V 29 and it has never had those bars. I used it on my desktop and on 2 laptops and this last reformat is the only one with the bar. When I install my copy of V28 I do a custom, I do not install the maintenance and had no problem for a long time. I know FF has the download but it's not a simple click, it is tech speak and I did not understand any of it. When I went to FF help last week, I knew it was a mistake there was a pop up telling me I need to update. I did not do it so they did. I won't go there again.

starbuck, I want it simple, I don't want the clutter at the top of my desktop. I condense my tool bar to one line and the favorite's bar, that's it. I could not do that with V 29. When I bought my
W 7 PC it had Word instead of Works. All I do is write letters to my elderly friends who do not use PCs. I had almost 4 inches of clutter at the top that I never used. I googled and worked until I discovered the quick access bar and condensed it to the minimum. When I posted in the Garden Web PC help forum we were discussing WOT and I said I go in there if I want to even with the warning. Of course someone jumped on me for being stupid. Another tech who was there for years, mentioned me and another senior lady, he said they can go in in-spite of the warning because they know what they are doing. Those things do not make me angry, they just challenge me to find a way around it, to fix it. Over riding my setting of "never" did make me a unhappy though. LOL

Rich, I always buy the reformatting CDs when I buy a new PC. That has saved me a lot of money over the years, especially when I was a newby. The older computers would run faster and better after reformatting. I can't see that with newer ones, they are so much better now.

Maybe They have changed it, I haven't tried it in a long time. There was a FF ad on that let you arrange it the way you wanted it, but I did not like it.

I only have the 'Menu Bar' ticked under Toolbars.
Have never used any extra Toolbars.
The extra buttons that are normally to the right of the search box... can be removed by right clicking on them and selecting 'Remove from Toolbar'.
No addon is needed to achieve this.

Thanks for that info. I will turn on my laptop and install that version of FF. The version 28 is hidden. I will not go to FF help anymore they picked up on that right away and updated it.
