All of a sudden, can't view powerpoint

Out of the blue, I can no longer view any powerpoint presentations sent to me
in email (I'm using Outlook Express). I have re-installed the most recent
powerpoint viewer several times and have made sure the "associations" for the
extensions (ppt, pps, etc.) are properly associated with the viewer, and they
are. I have even gone so far as to re-install vista to try and fix the
problem, but that hasn't worked either. It used to work fine, so it's quite
curious to me. If I save the file to my desktop and open it from there, it
works, but not if I try to open it up inside Outlook - I get a "this file
does not have a program associated with it..." error message.

    Any suggestions?

I have that happen occasionally with Power point and Windows Media Player.
Usually, I just exit Windows Mail (formerly Outlook Express), then start it
up again. That takes care of it for a long time. In rare cases, I simply
    reboot.
