After scheduled task wake-up, computer goes back to sleep too soon

    Hi all.

I'm having a problem with Scheduled Tasks and the sleep function. I've
created tasks with "Wake the computer to run this task" set, and the computer
does indeed wake up at the specified time to run the task, but it then goes
back to sleep two minutes later, before the task has had time to finish.
When I wake the computer myself later, the task carries on.

I've tried this with a task that runs a windows app, one that runs a command
line app, and one that runs defrag, and it's always the same - it suspends
    again after 2 minutes.

Has anyone else had a problem with their computer resuspending / going back
to sleep prematurely? Does anyone have any ideas for how to stop it doing
    this?

    Thanks.

*Solution to Vista Task Scheduler Wake Up then Sleep after 2 minutes*
I joined specifically to share a solution to a tricky Vista problem.
When you wake a Vista PC through Task Scheduler or some other automated
Wake Up program, Vista goes back to sleep after 2 minutes. See these
threads for examples of this issue.

'After scheduled task wake-up, computer goes back to sleep too soon'
    ()

'Vista Sleep Mode and Task Scheduler' (
    )

    The solution/workaround is:-

    1) Switch on 'Media Sharing' in Network and Sharing Center
    2) In Power Options, Advanced, Multimedia Settings, When Sharing Media,
enable the setting 'Prevent idling to sleep'.
    3) The above will fix the sleep after 2 minutes issue. Obviously, you
need to set timeouts for sleep/hibernate as well to ensure your task has
    time to complete.

This has worked for me for a couple of months now. I have a PC which I
log into remotely with LogMein, so it needs to be on all the time. I
wake it up and run a backup at 6am. Since this fix it has always been
    available for login!

Alan, surely this just prevents the machine going to sleep in the first
place? There are several ways to accomplish this. What we want to do
is to have the machine go to sleep then wake up to perform a task
    according to the task scheduler.

If I have misunderstood then please confirm if your machine can go into
full deep sleep, wake up to perform a task and then go back to sleep
again only when that task is completed?

Yes I agree. That is how it should work. For me personally, I don't
want my machine to idle to sleep. I didn't mean to mislead anybody.

For that solution, I think Microsoft have to fix the '2 minutes'
    problem properly.

In that case you could simply remove the Sleep After... settings in the
Sleep section of Advanced Settings of the Power options and don't have
to mss around with Multimedia settings.

But we're going off-topic. Personally, I expected this isue to ahve
been solved in SP1 but no luck. I'm not sure why it hasn't received
more attention as it is such a fundamental flaw in the power savings
    aspect of Vista.
