I desperately need a new laptop, and I would like it to be able to handle RPGs like Skyrim, Fallout, and maybe No Man's Sky. I'm by no stretch an avid gamer, but I would just like to know if there are any dependable laptops that can smoothly run these games while hopefully not breaking the bank. Or would it be cheaper to get a basic laptop for day to day use and buy a used console for gaming?

    Hi Johnny, welcome to CHF.

Does your gaming machine have to be a laptop?
Could it be a desktop computer?

Desktops tend to workout cheaper than laptops, especially if you build it yourself, or have it built for you.

Someone here with more gaming knowledge may be able to offer more advice.

Johnny, welcome, I share Frank's opinion. I'm not a gamer but my impression is laptops sold as gaming machines are generally disappointing.

Hi Johnny. To play those games in high res and frame rates and have no issues, a Laptop would cost you around $2500 -$3000.
My advice is to get yourself a PS4 Play Station which will play all those games brilliantly.

    Seriously,what is your budget?

ASUS offer excellent gaming laptops & I highly recommend them & the brand. However, expect to pay close to $2k or more. I do agree you could likely have a suitable (desktop) machine built for less money.

Having a desktop built would be the smartest thing and then get a laptop for email and cat videos.

If you are still wanting to use a lap top for gaming you will need to keep it cool since most game now use a lot of processing, GPU, and power in general. In turn that creates a lot of heat and will ruin a laptop fast.

This points to another reason for recommending ASUS. Their cooling technology is terrific.; they don't get hot.
