A Referral Was Returned From The Server

    When ever I try to run an exe file (I've tried it on 2 or 3) I receive
    the error:

    'A referral was returned from the server'

    My colleague has tried to run one of the same exe files and gets
    propted to allow or deny run, selects allow and then can begin to
    install if he wishes. I get the error straight away.

    We are both using Vista Business SP2, both have UAC turned on.

    If I turn UAC off and reboot it does let me run it, so, quite why I
    don't get the prompt my colleague gets I don't know. Can anyone advise?

    Not that I think it's especially related, but the exe file in question
    can be downloaded from here: 'Download DumpSec'
    () (Kaspersky scans it as
    clean)

    It happens on the exe required to install Miranda IM too.

    I believe I've sorted this via local group policy.

    Start - Run - GPEdit.msc

    I then went to Computer Configuration - Security Settings - Local
    Policies - Security Options.

    Towards the bottom:
    <!--coloro:blue--><span style="color:blue <!--/coloro-->
    > User Account Control: Only elevate executables that are signed and
    > validated<!--colorc--><!--/colorc-->

    This was enabled, on my colleagues machine it was disabled. I disabled
    it and boom it works [IMG]
