hello my computer has had some really annoying problems with connection and download as well as a few email issues. Ill start with connection when im browsing the internet occasionally when i click on a link the page doesn't load i get the little pulsating circle but i have to click the link about five time until the page loads. also i have purchased the game minecraft but when i cannot login to the game through the vannila launcher but when i manage to login with the Technic launcher which is community made launcher which plays different mod packs like the Technic pack and yogbox but when i login the game is so slow i cannot even navigate away from the main menu. but this problem appears to be solved when i play in offline mode but this is annoying as i would like to play with my friends on there servers. i have tried updating my Java but to no avail.

Minecraft has also come across a updating problem normally it will update fine with now problems it will download a fresh jar file but recently it hasn't been updating it gets to the downloading packages but then the connection times out and the error message Fatal error occurred (4) connection timed out: connect .i have also noticed a rather temperamental download pattern for my internet appears to have a ridiculously fast download speed at about a Mb/s at least i think its fast but about 5 minutes into the download it stops with the default download manager it doesnt restart but in flashget and steam the download may restart about 5 minutes later or stop compleatly and the only way to get it going again is by pausing and then starting the download from where it left of.

the problem with my email is that it is ridiculously slow and temperamental some emails take awhile to send some of my friends have also been saying that i have been sending them strange emails when i haven't. other problems include my printer which doesn't like printing stuff at chucks out something like two pages then stops but when documents are sent to it by my other pc it prints fine.

This is getting beyond annoying and it is getting worse my computer is a desktop windows 7 professional i would really apreciate it if you could help me out with scince no one i know has any idea why this is happening it also seems to happen in stages getting progressively worse my parents laptop has also shown the first stages with printer difficulties and videos that stop to buffer after 5 minutes.

Hi Wolfgirl. Welcome to Computer Help Forums.
Please be patient till another Techy more experienced with Games shows up.

What are all your system Specs?
Is your computer hard wired or Wireless?
    Internet speed average?
Make and model of your Modem/router.

It will save time if you could provide these details in advance.

I am not a gamer at all but from what I am reading it appears that your issue is related to your network rather than any specific games. I admit that much of what you are saying about the various launchers is foreign to me and someone who games will see this and add what they can, BUT the first thing I would do is check whether the problem remains if you hard wire the computer to the router which I assume is a modem/router since you reference Sky.

I am also assuming that the download sites and speed refer to legitimate download sources, if they are torrents I would first suspect malware. However, since your parents are havng connection problems, I would check out the router first.

ill try to see if i can convince my dad to try a wired connection but he's convinced it has something to do with windows 7 me not so much is there a possibility that it could have something to do with the operating system

Unless it is malware related or there are corrupted or missing files on both your computers then it is not related to Windows 7. If your computer is a desktop then all you will need to test it out is to purchase a simple ethernet cable that is long enough. While the laptop is apparently experiencing less problems that could just be based on how it is used. The router must have come with a cable that was about 2-3 feet long and the laptop can be moved to it.

    Just another couple of questions to add, though these may not apply as the mention of printing is too local for an internet connection problem but I'll ask anyway;

Has this situation only occurred recently? Like the last few days?

Also do you happen to live in or around London?

With the Olympics going on at the moment they were predicting possible network issues (3G as well hence the banning of Wifi Hotspots, not that this is relevant), or there may be some sort of issue with your local exchange (where your phone line is connected), say a capacity problem, it only takes a few extra users to tip it over the edge and internet speeds can plummet.

EDIT: Could you run a speedtest in addition to the advice above, both wireless and wired to the router if possible and paste the shared image here. - http://speedtest.net/

I asked you to run a speed test in #2 and Woodyblade asked you again in #7.
If you want help please provide the information asked for.

While that is very unimpressive it does not tell us what you are supposed to be getting. If you are paying for 5mps then it is just fine if you are paying for 20 etc. it is horrible.

That being said, we still cannot hope to single out the cause of the loss of signal until you at least hard wire one computer to that modem/router. While I can understand why your Dad may not want to permanently wire your machine from another room there really should be no issue testing the router with his laptop.

What devices are on your network? Are there any devices that access your network once in a while? I'm thinking about a cell phone with wireless capability or an iPad or iPod Touch?

While troubleshooting, consider turning off unneeded network devices.

As your indicating that your other computers seem to be working fine, I'd hazard a guess that we can stop looking at the networking equipment & ISP being at fault and see what localised issue is affecting this desktop.

What security software do these computers use? List anti-virus and firewalls.

Are you using different security software across the computers?

Could you also list any other software you have installed that accesses the internet for updating or downloading?

If you think that this problem started immediately after a security update try a System Restore on that computer.

Start > type in ....system restore >..... ENTER
Select a date that is just prior to the start of the problem.

You will not lose any files / data / photos.

You will have to re-install any updates / software that was installed after the date that you select.
