Honestly, I am surprised nobody has asked about this one. Although, it was expected to excite people to have a Start menu in Win10, after the lack of one in 8.1, some people whinge about 10's Start menu.

For the sake of this discussion we'll ignore how easily one can/could search for something (instead) Oh, so quickly!

One can scroll the alphabetised list of Apps or (now) go to a certain letter or one can have a slew of those silly tiles & scroll through those. The All apps list has folders w/ things, of course, inside meaning one has to have some idea of which folder may hold what they seek... everything is not exposed, in other words.

Well as item #9 states it is possible to have ALL Applications open in a window from the Taskbar. And I mean ALL out in the open, nothing inside folders. Display in that window can be set how one prefers and w/ this no need to open Start & scroll for things or wonder where they are 'hiding'. It's damn handy.

This & other things in Miscellany may generate some questions...

Tiles suck...it's why I use a start menu program.....I like it and I use the crap out of it. Start10 and Start8 are way better then Classic Shell.

Jim, what I mention has nothing to do w/ Classic Shell. Some thought such 3rd Party start things were wanted in 8.1 You know I saw little validity to that in 8.1 and sure not in Windows 10. What I mention here has nothing to do w/ any 3rd party start alternative. Does not use any of those, is done w/out any of those things.

I happen to agree about tiles but, no 3rd party thing is necessary to avoid them. What I discussed here is not a 3rd party item.

I use both Stardock8 and 10 and also Classic Shell and honestly I can't see a big difference. Search in Stardock is better but I don't see any other difference. The "so called" Start Menu in Windows 10 I find an insulting shrink down of the fave "Start".

I would point out that discussion of various 3rd Party start alternatives & which is 'good' & which is worse is way off topic in this thread.

:bnghd:True but actually it was your remark about a start menu in Windows 10 that caused it to go off target and its your thread?

Well for me it's the quickest most efficient way of arriving at the result that counts.

Windows is not a perfect OS and you need some third party apps to arrive at a solution quicker.
I have seen some of the best Techies in computer shops use third party apps often.

Remember no one company is perfect nor is their software. Third party software exists because of that.

Not sure why some are discussing 3rd party things. They have no connection to what is discussed in the OP; it has nothing to do w/ 3rd party anythings.

Don't be rude. There was no such thing from me! Such notes as you have just left are uncivil, unacceptable & do not belong in any conversation.

This thread I believe was split off from the original thread Drew and it actually starts with talking about the Windows 10 start menu and why people are fussing about it which naturally leads into a discussion of 3rd party start menus because most people who know they exist use them.

Frankly if Microsoft would listen to its users and stop trying to force a senseless change (IMHO) Windows 10 probably would have been a success. Nearly a year later with the same 8% usership, especially since a large % of it came without cost, is actually a worse performance than Windows 8 and hasn't yet touched the 50% that remains with Windows 7. What is fascinating to me is the 43% of users on Windows 7 9 months after the release of Windows 8 actually has been increasing and is now over 50%. I don't ever remember seeing that before and it does not bode well for Micrsoft who can't even give away the change free and be successful with it. And before someone I know well accuses me of continuing my rant on Windows 10 let me say while I did express an opinion it is totally based on statistics that we all know and I thought expressing one's own opinion was really what forums are for.

Where this thread started was with the Start Menu. I don't see a start menu because I don't see programs and Windows components listed. I see a very cleverly designed shrink down of the Metro page made to be about twice the size of the original start menu containing nothing within it that old start menus ever featured. When the public rose up and demanded a start menu, I never heard a single person clamoring for it to be completely different and the same as a shrunken version of the Windows 8 Metro page already rejected by the majority of users but I am getting older maybe my hearing isn't so good?
