I enjoy watching video on my PC. Sometimes there is a 4K UHD version available but as my screen has only a 1080p resolution is it worth downloading or playing the larger file. Would I or should I get a clearer image or am I wasting my time until I have a UHD screen?

It's possible that you may get a clearer image.
But it'll still be 1080p quality at best.
Your monitor cannot possibly output anything better than 1080 because that's its max resolution.
The reason I say 'It's possible' ... is that not all 1080 videos are the same quality, some are compressed.
For example, a You Tube video that say 1080 has probably been compressed ..... so the quality isn't exactly 1080.

    I personally would believe all you’ll see is a 1080 resolution even if you’re watching a 4K movie/video.
It would not be beneficial to download a 4K video/movie unless the video may not be available in the near future & you are certain you’ll purchase a 4K monitor sometime soon.
