I originally had 1.5 gigs of RAM installed. I purchased 3 more gigs (specs state up to 4 gigs is the max in 4 slots). I removed 1 512 stick and added the new 3, 1gig sticks. The CPU only sees 3 gigs of RAM, not 4 that are installed. I switched around the sticks but it still only sees three of the sticks. I figure that because 3 of the sticks are the same, and 1 is different, that could be causing the issue. What do you think?

    Hi

Start > Right click Computer > Properties

What does it say there when you have all 4 modules in ?

Windows XP 32 bit will not recognise all 4 GB.
This is a condition of 32 bit systems.
Normally you would expect about 3.5 GB to be used by Windows.

With all 4 mods in Ken, it shows 3 gigs in the "My Computer>Properties" tab. All sticks are 1 gig each and the specs (For a Dell Dimension E520) say the Mobo can handle up to 4 gigs RAM.

Have you tried 3 modules - then swap them around but only have 3 at a time.
Check each time that you are registering 3GB

You are looking for the one that registers 2GB - if this happens.
