We do try to get the message across to make a full system backup on a regular basis, however with the new Windows 10 operating system it is even more important to do so. There have been reports on various websites of failures during the Windows 10 upgrade resulting in a dead computer.
I can verify that as my laptop died for that reason. Fortunately I have a full image on my external hard drive from some time since, so I could at least restore the laptop to that image. I just need quite a few updates to get re-installed to get back to where I started.

So do make sure you have a full backup, a full image or even a clone on a spare hard drive is the best.

This is so important. I make an image file before installing new programs, updating critical ones and certainly before a Windows upgrade as you have no idea what can happen.

An update on this problem, I first started the upgrade from the so called normal Windows update when I got the notification it was ready to install. That failed badly with no escape, I had to use an old image to get back to Windows 7.
So after making sure it was fully updated, I made a new image and tried the download direct from the Microsoft site. It still failed badly, I tried the different repairs, not one worked so it is back to the image reinstall. The laptop in question is an Acer Aspire model 5935G. It obviously has some hardware problem that Windows 10 cannot work with.
It is back to Windows 7 from the image. I cannot get the original system back any other way.

I had a really cheap Asus laptop that is new and it took me about 8 tries to stop getting errors and finally update from 8.1 to 10 and I don't even know why it finally went through.

I am not trying any more with the laptop and the desktop is already giving the message, "Unfortunately this PC is unable to run Windows 10. The rest of the script tells me it is the graphics integrated chipset NVidia GeForce 6150SE nForce 430. A check on the NVidia site show it is no longer supported as being beyond life. So no new drivers for it.
I suspect the laptop, being of similar age may have a similar problem.

I have heard of quite a few issues using clean install where they don't complete and updates on Windows 7 machines is a nightmare apparently. I am going to make an image file of this 7 system next week and try it to see what happens but I have no intention of staying on 10.

The troublesome computer that wouldn't play ball, I Wiped Windows10 and cloned Windows7 Ultimate back onto the SSD Drive. Computer going like a train with Windows7 back on it.

Other 3 computers are going OK with the Windows 10 upgrade direct from Microsoft.

I walked in to a client's home today and her son has a learning disability and he is the computer literate there and booted up a refurbished computer I sold them last year, to find Windows 10 on it and of course she didn't do it, as they all say, and has no idea how it got there but it is running like a champ, way better than it ran on Windows 7! I guess I will have to try this update sooner than I thought from 7 to 10!

I did the Windows 10 upgrade on a Windows 7 SP1 computer last week and so far it has been running perfectly.

The only problem I've discovered so far was a problem with paltalk.

It had a problem already running paltalk as Windows 7 so I don't think it's actually related to the Windows 10 upgrade.

I got Paltalk to run on my laptop with Windows 10. I wasn't easy as I finally had to shut down Emsisoft and still had to download it 3 times to finally get one that would install and it froze the laptop 3 times where I had to shutdown and restart to get past that and finally got it installed and running.
